Welcome to Southold
SOUTHOLD is the hamlet within the township of Southold. Its vibrant town center contains many boutiques, restaurants, supermarkets and shops of all varieties. Southold was founded in 1640 and its residents were known as the First Settlers. Southold lays claim to many beaches, creeks, preserves and farmland. Boaters have access to the Peconic Bay via marinas. Clams and scallops are abundant in season. Long Island Sound is the town’s northern border. Southold also boasts an Indian Museum and Observatory. Along with the town’s largest sound beach, locally known as Town Beach, residents have several bay beach choices including Goose Creek Beach. Horton’s Point Lighthouse offers a beautiful sweeping view of the Long Island Sound and is worth the trip on a clear day.
Southold Town’s government buildings are sprinkled throughout the down town area.
Southold students attend the elementary, middle and senior high school located on Oaklawn Avenue. They are known as the Settler’s. Tennis courts, baseball fields and a large auditorium keep this campus hopping!
